Torrington Target:
Now offers Fresh Grocery

IF you happen to drop by your local Target on the way home from work, you will now be able to grab something fresh for dinner.
Target, the store that sells things like diapers and electronics, has been aggressively marketing its fresh food offerings this year in a major nationwide campaign.

While Target has carried snack foods like potato chips and soft drinks for years, the company has expanded to include fresh groceries like steak, chicken, eggs and apples. Target stores nationwide have been reformatted to include the new food layout, and the company expects to add the arrangement to additional stores at the rate of about 400 a year.  {Website}{Coupons}{Weekly Ad}

Local Stores - Closed Doors!

  • S&S Sweets at 38 Main St
  • Brutus, a hot dog eatery at 238 Water St.
  • Artwell Gallery at 45 Main St.
  • Happy Dollar, a dollar store at 61 South Main St.
  • Scents & Sensibility, a gift shop at 97 Main St.
  • Good Life Natural Food and Wellness Center at 1083 East Main St.

It is always sad to see your favorite place of business closing its doors for the last time. The Torrington community will miss these merchants as much as it will embrace those that replace them.  But, if you are considering this as a sign of failure -- it is also important to understand these businesses are closing for various reasons -- that it wasn’t Torrington or just a bad economy.  This may just be the natural flow of things in a city as large as our own. But, it is also a sign that our community needs to support our local businesses for them to survive.
